INSTALLATION NOTES FOR FreeBSD USERS Bryan Collins suggests the following procedure to get MPEG::MP3Play running with FreeBSD. This is an excerpt from a email he sent me regarding this: --snip-- I'm running FreeBSD 3.3-19990908-RC, but all of this applies to FreeBSD 3.2 and above. Now because the SDK for FreeBSD is an oldstyle 'ar' archive, you can't link it in with the MPEG:MP3Play module because the system installation of perl5 is elf. To get around this, you need to compile perl5 as aout, along with any modules you use. Download http://www.plab.ku.dk/tobez/FreeBSD-perl-aout/Makefile.SH and replace original Makefile.SH in the distribution. Download http://www.plab.ku.dk/tobez/FreeBSD-perl-aout/hints/freebsd.sh and replace original hints/freebsd.sh in the distribution. $ OBJFORMAT=aout sh Configure -DAOUT -des Not sure about this one, but my 3.3-RC came with no static aout libs, so I grabbed some from a 2.2.8-RELEASE /usr/lib/*.[oa] and copied to /usr/lib/compat/aout Now, this would be way way way much easier if the Xaudio dudes would release an elf based library for linking your module against. So perhaps it may be worth mentioning a small bit of the above, and you can give my email for further questions. That way if the Xaudio guys do an elf library, then the NOTES for FreeBSD would zero :-) --snip-- $Id: README.FreeBSD,v 1.1 1999/09/25 13:07:25 joern Exp $
