How to use listgate with sendmail 8

It is actually quite easy to set up sendmail 8 to work with listgate for
arbitrary mailing lists, assuming you're using sendmail's m4 system for
your configuration file building instead of editing cf files by hand.  (If
you are editing cf files by hand, you shouldn't need this file.)

1. Put listgate.m4 in the cf/mailer directory of sendmail's source tree.

2. Add any necessary define()s to your .mc file to override the
   following defaults:

   LISTGATE_MAILER_PATH   [/usr/local/bin/listgate]
   LISTGATE_MAILER_USER   [news:news]

   You should not need to override LISTGATE_MAILER_FLAGS.

3. After the define()s (if any), add the following line:

   MAILER(listgate)

4. If you do not already have it in your .mc file, add the line:

   FEATURE(mailertable)

   Depending on the database formats available in your sendmail binary,
   you may need to include an argument.  See cf/README in the sendmail
   distribution.

5. Create your .cf file in the usual manner.

6. Add an entry to mailertable (see "USING MAILERTABLES" in cf/README in
   the sendmail distribution for details) such as:

   listgate.example.com    listgate:newshost.example.com

7. Add one or more MX records for "listgate.example.com" to the DNS.
   The lowest-preference MX should be the host running listgate.

8. Create newsgroups for the mailing lists you want to gateway, as well
   as a "postmaster" newsgroup; the latter is useful for testing, and is
   necessary to comply with RFC 822.

9. Subscribe "listname@listgate.example.com" to a mailing list to have
   its mail posted to "example.mail.listname".  Mail for groups which
   don't exist will be silently dropped.
